Import Trades into App

Importing Trades from Tradovate

Getting your trades from Tradovate is an easy straight forward process. You can either download them via the ‘Performance Center’ tab that you’ve added to your workspace or just click on the ‘Reports’ tab that is always anchored on the righthand toolbar (3 vertical lines). Here’s a tutorial from Tradovate: Account Reports & Trade Performance

Once you download the CSV file from Tradovate. Click ‘Upload CSV’ in your calendar app, find the file (typically it goes into your ‘Download’ folder). Double click it or select it and hit open. That’s it, PnL Calendar then imports all your trades in the file. The app also analyzes and organizes all your trading data for future analysis, such each trade, hold times, Win/Loss stats, PnLs, equity curve, profit factor, etc…

Navigating the Journal

Journal and Screenshot Entry

Journal Entries

To add a journal entry, click on the small Pencil & Paper icon in the top right corner of any day’s cell. This will open up the Trade Journal window. Add your entry for the day (Mindset, strategies, trade times, anything that you could review later that would provide valuable insight to you). You can also add up to 3 screenshots on each day’s entry. Once an entry is saved the Pencil & Paper icon will be highlighted to denote which days have entries.

If you are honest with yourself, journaling can be an excellent tool to find and fix leaks in your day-trading venture.

Accessing Trades & Stats

Finding your detailed trading stats and info on each trade is super simple with PnL Calendar. You can get to all your combined stats(weekly ,monthly, & all time) by simply clicking on the pie chart located towards the center of the main calendar app’s info bar (blue text stating ‘^Full Stats’ will appear when hovering over this). This will provide you total trades taken, winners, losers, gross pnl, commissions, net pnl, largest winner/loser, averages, Win/Loss Ratio, Profit Factor, equity curve, plus hourly & daily breakdowns.

To find stats on a specific day such as a trades taken list, click on the hyperlink within any day’s cell that has data uploaded to it, this will pull up the Trade List window. From here you can see every trade taken for that day, entry times, hold durations, contract type, quantities, buy/sell price and PnLs. From within this window, you can click the pie chart (blue text stating ‘^ Deep Stats’ will appear while hovering over this area). This will pull up additional stats for that day.

Calendar PnL not Correct

Adjusting Fees

Troubleshooting

There are 3 likely scenarios as to why your PnLs might not be matching your Tradovade account balance. 1: The wrong prop firm is selected during account creation,  2: Either the prop firm you are trading isn’t listed in the defaults, you’re trading a contract not loaded in the defaults, or the prop firm has changed their commission fees from the current defaults in the app(rare, but this could happen). 3: You didn’t get all of the trades taken for a certain timeframe when downloading the .csv file from Tradovate. Let’s tackle each of these situations.

1: This is the most common reason for mismatched PnLs. The wrong ‘Commission Schedule’ is selected for the prop firm you are trading when you originally created the account. Each prop firm charges different fees for different contracts, so it’s important to have the correct one selected. During account creation, you name the account and select the prop firm. It is easy to tell if you selected the correct firm, in the accounts dropdown, the firm’s name is to the immediate right of the account name. If this isn’t right, click the edit pencil, and in the ‘Edit Account’ window, select the correct prop firm under ‘Commission Schedule’.

2: If you are trading a different prop firm than the 5 default ones loaded into the app, you will need to manually add it. In the settings, click ‘Add Firm’, then follow the prompts. After that you will need to add each contract that you trade with that firm and the round trip fee they charges to trade said instrument. We tried to add the most commonly traded firms & contracts in the defaults, but we realize that there are many many more out there not listed. If you do trade any instruments or firms not listed in the defaults you will have to add them manually.  Do that by creating a new firm (‘Add Firm’ button) and then adding each contract symbol, name, and round trip fee that you trade with said firm. After that your app will automatically and correctly calculate your PnLs and fee for all your trades on that account. If you have the correct firm selected and your PnLs still don’t match account, open settings and make sure all the contracts you are trading have fees for them, if everything is there, it could be possible that the firm changed their fees. Every prop firm post their commissions and fees on their website, find their fees and make sure they match the defaults in the settings. If not manually update them.

3: It is possible that you didn’t get all of your trades when downloading the .csv from Tradovate. Go back into Tradovate and try to select the whole date-time range since the account was created, download the new .csv and then try to upload. PnL Calendar will skip any trades already imported and only add the missed one.

Bypassing the Warning

Download Warning

Microsoft Security

Microsoft does it best to prevent viruses and trojans from landing on your PC. And this is fantastic, but these screening methods can also become a hassle for small businesses, coders, and web developers, and even the end-user trying to install a new program.

Code signing would completely remove this warning after so many trusted downloads & installs. We are currently in the process of setting up all the proper code signing. This is a timely process, so please be patient. Once the code signing is in place this message will no longer appear when installing for the first time.

If you do receive this warning on your first install, simply click on ‘More info’, and then ‘Run Anyway’.
